4 Bizarre Things About Abuja’s Chinese Supermarket Discriminating Against Nigerians

Earlier on Sunday, Nigerians woke up to a bizarre discovery of a Chinese Supermarket located in Abuja, which restricted entry exclusively to Chinese citizens and barred Nigerians from patronising it.

As expected, there was outrage by netizens over the discriminatory policy implemented by the Chinese Supermarket in the heart of Nigeria – the nation’s capital city.

The supermarket, situated at the China General Chamber of Commerce’s expansive building along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Expressway, which is also known as Airport Road, is acclaimed as a destination for Chinese cuisine and beverages.

Following the discovery and outrage, the facility has been shut down. However, hereunder are four strange things about the supermarket:

1. The supermarket is inconspicuously housed in a building that resembles a residential house, lacking any signage or banners to indicate its commercial nature.

2. Although the supermarket has Nigerians as workers, it’s bizarre that their fellow Nigerians were prohibited from patronising the facility as customers.

3. Initially, Nigerians had access to the supermarket, but since January 2024, they have been barred from entry without any explanation provided.

4. Despite numerous complaints in the past, both the supermarket’s management and the Nigerian government had remained silent on the strange policy on Nigerian soil.
