2026 World Cup qualifier: Gov Uzodimma to head Presidential support for Super Eagles qualifiers

1 week ago 24

After some delays caused by pressing state duties, SCORENigeria can report that a Presidential Support Group (PSG) to ensure the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 World Cup will be finally announced this week.

The PSG will be headed by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and will boast of several top government officials as well as representatives of corporate sponsors.

The PSG will provide seamless support for the Super Eagles and surmount bureaucratic bottlenecks for approvals and releases of state funds among other assistance.

The presidential committee has already been allocated Three Billion Naira in the Federal Government budget and it also has a mandate to raise more funding for the Super Eagles.

It would be recalled that a Presidential Task Force (PTF) led by then Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi ensured the Super Eagles beat the odds after a difficult start to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The PTF will also build the NFF head office from part of the funds it raised on behalf of the national team.
