Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state has weekend received 8,000 Borno displaced persons from Chad Republic. They were repatriated in collaboration with the presidential committee on repatriation and resettlement.
Represented by Hon Karta Maina Ma’aji Lawan, member representing Kukawa, LGC state constituency of the Borno state House of Assembly (BOSHA) Sunday night , the governor received the returnees from Dar ES Salam camp in Baga Sola, Republic of Tchad at Dalori Estate junction along Bama Road and escorted them to Gubio camp in Maiduguri.
Governor Zulum, along with Hon Karta and other stakeholders, had last week visited Tchad and made all necessary arrangements to kick-start the repatriation.
The displaced persons have been in Tchad for almost 10 years since Boko Haram insurgents launched an attack and took over Baga town in 2014.
Other members of the repatriation state committee that facilitated the successful repatriation include SEMA , Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), NDLEA, NSCDC and other supportive organisations at Gubio IDPs camp.
It was gathered that the people will soon be resettled at their ancestral home (Baga ) with the directives of Governor Zulum.
“They are only here to receive some reliefs and medical checks before being transported home,” the lawmaker said.
