Zidane’s Son Luca Switches Allegiance To Algeria

Luca Zidane, the son of France’s World Cup-winning playmaker Zinedine Zidane, has officially switched his international allegiance from France to Algeria.

Born just outside Marseille, the 27-year-old goalkeeper represented France at youth level but has now been cleared by Fifa to play for Algeria. The move could see him feature at the 2026 World Cup in North America, with Algeria expected to secure qualification in their upcoming match against Somalia.

Zidane, the second of four brothers who all progressed through the Real Madrid academy, currently plays for Spanish second-tier side Granada. He previously featured for Real Madrid’s senior team, playing two matches, and also gained La Liga experience at Rayo Vallecano before moving to Eibar in 2022 and later joining Granada in 2024.

His eligibility for Algeria comes through his father, whose parents were from the Kabylie region of the North African country.

Zinedine Zidane, widely considered one of football’s greatest players, memorably scored twice in France’s 1998 World Cup final victory over Brazil, before his dramatic red card in the 2006 final against Italy, which France lost on penalties.
