The Zamfara State government on Thursday appealed for increased humanitarian support to assist thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
It also called for aid to reach vulnerable families across the state.
The call was made by the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters, Salisu Musa Tsafe, in a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Information, Bashir Kabir Ahmed on Thursday

Tsafe commended development partners for their interventions so far but stressed that more help was urgently needed to alleviate the hardship faced by displaced communities.
According to him, Zamfara currently has thousands of IDPs drawn from about 1,008 communities across its 14 local government areas, as captured in the State Social Register.
“We acknowledge the efforts of our partners in providing relief, but the needs are still overwhelming.
“We therefore call for more support in order to cushion the suffering of our people,” he said.
He added: “The plight of IDPs in Zamfara remains a humanitarian concern that requires urgent and continuous attention.
“Many families have lost their homes and means of livelihood, and without intervention, their situation will worsen.”
The commissioner also urged international organisations, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Première Urgence Internationale (PUI), and others, to expand their reach.
“We appeal for more interventions in livelihood support, empowerment programmes, shelter provision, and cash transfers to restore dignity to the displaced,” he stated.
Tsafe assured that the state government under Governor Dauda Lawal had created the enabling environment for humanitarian organisations to operate effectively.
“The government has shown political will and commitment to support interventions, and we will continue to provide every necessary assistance to ensure our partners can reach the most vulnerable,” he added.
