KANO – The Kano State Government on Tuesday announced plans to inaugurate the newly reconstituted Shurah Council on Monday, 8th September, 2025.
In Islamic governance, a Shura Council (Majlis ash-Shura) is a consultative assembly or advisory body that provides guidance and recommendations to leaders or decision-makers. It represents a mechanism for collective decision-making and consultation, grounded in Islamic values and principles.
A statement by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs that was made available to Reporters Tuesday evening said the Council will be under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf.
Abdullahi Waiya explained that “The establishment of the Shuurah Council represents a significant step in strengthening participatory governance, inclusiveness, and transparency in decision-making. “
He stated that “The Council is expected to serve as an advisory body to the State Government, providing informed guidance on policies and programmes that will continue to drive the transformation agenda and promote sustainable development in the state.”
Waiya noted that “Abba Kabiru Yusuf, widely known for his commitment to people-oriented governance, will use the occasion to highlight the objectives and mandate of the Council, as well as reaffirm his administration’s dedication to accountability, equity, and citizens’ participation in decision-making towards ensuring effective service delivery to the people of Kano State.”
According to the statement “The Shuurah Council is composed of highly respected personalities, representing critical stakeholder constituencies, with a view to ensuring balanced and adequate representation across all social strata of the Kano community.”
He however enjoined “All members of the Council, as well as invited guests, are enjoined to attend the event as the Kano State Government takes another important stride in consolidating the democratic ideals of citizens’ participation in governance and strengthening institutions for enhanced service delivery.”
