Yusuf Tasks Council Chairmen On Prioritizing Key Projects

KANO– Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during the weekend directed the 44 local government chairmen in the state to prioritize key infrastructure projects to accelerate grassroots development.

Abba Kabir Yusuf who spoke at a 3-day workshop for local government officials, themed “Intense capacity building for all stakeholders” at Dawakin Kudu organised by Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission warned against laxity in the operations of the local council.

Represented at the event by Taju Muhammad Luqman, the Kano State Commissioner for Local Government, listed the renovation of primary schools, provision of water supply, feeder roads, and public toilets a top priority

The governor emphasized the importance of stemming open defecation by providing public convenience facilities in the strategic crannies within the council.

Governor Yusuf also reminded local government chairmen that they are ultimately responsible for the affairs of their councils and must take charge of their operations.

He warned that laxity and corruption will not be tolerated, and that any chairman found wanting will face investigation, prosecution, and possible imprisonment.

The governor’s directive might not be unconnected with the principles of decentralization, which aim to bring government closer to the people and promote effective governance at the grassroots level.

The workshop, which brought together local government officials from across the state, aimed to build their capacity and enhance their effectiveness in governance.

The event featured presentations and discussions on key topics, including local government administration, financial management, and project implementation.
