The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has conducted clean-up operation across the Ikeja area, cracking down on street trading, illegal ticketing, unauthorized road blockages, and other environmental violations in preparation for the yuletide season.
The Director of Public Affairs, Taskforce, Gbadeyan AbdulRaheem, in a statement weekend stated that the enforcement operation was part of the agency’s continuous efforts to rid the state of nuisance and traffic obstruction.
He said the operation targeted areas where persistent violations impede traffic flow and pedestrian access around Ikeja underbridge, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Oba Akran Road, Tonade Street, Awolowo Road inward Allen Avenue roundabout, and other adjoining roads.
“Street traders displaying goods on the roads and walkways, activities of illegal ticketers, and motorists obstructing traffic flow”
“Three suspects were arrested for disturbing state officials from carrying out their legitimate duties”
“All goods and wares displayed on the roads were confiscated, and sanity was successfully restored in the affected areas,” Gbadeyan stated.
The Lagos State Taskforce confirmed that all suspects arrested have been charged to court.
He said the confiscated goods were forfeited to the state in line with the State Government Environmental Sanitation Laws of 2017 and Transport Sectors Reform Laws of 2018.
