Following the directive of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the commencement of voter registration, a community development Initiative in Yobe State has mobilized residents to register and exercise their civic rights.

The awareness campaign launched by Buni Yadi Community Development Initiative (BYCDI) sensitized the residents of Buni Yadi’s community in Gujba Local Government Area (LGA) on the importance of obtaining the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC).

The group members walked nooks and crannies of the community, emphasizing that voter registration is not just a routine activity, but a civic responsibility that would shape the future of governance in the state and the country.

The Chairman of the Initiative, Comrade Abubakar Ali, who led the sensitization campaign, said the project is meant to ensure that over 3,000 people including first-time voters were registered.

“We are thrilled to share that the turnout and cooperation from the community were massive and encouraging. This campaign is not just about registration—it’s about taking ownership of our future, our voices, and our right to shape the leadership that serves us.

“BYCDI remain committed to promoting civic responsibility, political awareness, and youth engagement. We call on everyone, especially the youth and first-time voters, to seize this opportunity and ensure they are registered and ready to vote,” he said.

In his remark, one of the mobilisers, Abubakar Gambo ,urged youths in the state to register and collect their PVCs ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“It’s a key step to ensuring their voices are heard. This push aligns with recent campaigns from several youth organizations and political movements advocating for greater civic participation,” he said.
