Former presidential aide and author, Reno Omokri, has advised parents against raising their children with the expectation that they will serve as financial security in old age.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Friday, Omokri emphasized that children are not obliged to repay their parents. He stressed that it is the sole responsibility of parents to provide unconditional love and care since children did not request to be born.
The author noted that many parents mistakenly view their children as a form of investment, warning that such a mindset often leads to frustration and disappointment.

According to him, while parents can fail in their responsibilities towards their children, it is wrong to suggest that children can disappoint their parents, as they owe no such obligation.
Omokri urged parents to raise their children with genuine commitment rather than treating them as future pension plans.
He wrote: “Stop having children because you expect them to be your pension plan for old age! Raise your children with dedication, not expectation. You owe them a duty because they did not ask to be born. They do not owe you. You owe them. Once you understand that, you will never accuse your children of disappointing you. You can disappoint them. They can’t disappoint you. You owe them unconditional love!”
