Young Nigerian earns U.S. commercial pilot licence, sets national record

An 18-year-old Nigerian, Muhammad Aminu Sani, has made aviation history by becoming one of the youngest Nigerians to obtain a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Multi-Engine Pilot License, a remarkable feat achieved at Phoenix East Aviation (PEA) in Daytona Beach, Florida, United States.

Sani completed the intensive flight training programme in just 10 months, passing every phase without a single checkride failure, an achievement considered exceptional even among experienced aviation trainees.

Speaking after receiving his certification he said, “It’s been an incredible experience filled with hard work, discipline, and passion. Becoming a pilot has always been my childhood dream, and today I’m proud to say I’m living that dream. I hope my story inspires others to chase their dreams with determination and never give up on what they believe.”

Born and raised in Abuja, Sani obtained his High School Diploma from Al-Hidaayah Academy in December 2023, before proceeding to The Regent College Abuja, where he graduated with distinction in Economics Foundation in July 2024. His academic excellence, he said, built the foundation for his aviation training in the United States.

At Phoenix East Aviation one of the world’s leading FAA Part 141 flight schools, Sani trained in diverse flight environments, mastering night flying, cross-country navigation, and instrument-rated operations in challenging weather conditions.

During his training, he logged extensive flight hours, including more than 50 hours on multi-engine aircraft such as the PA-34-200 Seneca and over 30 hours of cross-country flight time. He now officially holds an FAA Commercial Pilot License (AMEL).

Sani’s achievement has drawn admiration across Nigeria’s aviation and youth communities, seen as a symbol of excellence, focus, and the boundless potential of young Nigerians in global spaces.

His accomplishment, coming at a time when many young people are seeking purpose and global relevance, highlights the possibilities that can emerge from discipline and determination.

Looking ahead, Sani shared that he hopes to join a leading international airline to further his career and represent Nigeria on the global aviation stage.

From a young boy in Abuja who once looked up to the skies with wonder to a licensed commercial pilot at just 18, Muhammad Aminu Sani’s journey stands as a story of hope, resilience, and inspiration for a new generation of Nigerians.
