DAMATURU – In a significant milestone for the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Yobe State Government has signed a N22.3 billion contract for the construction of a state-of-the-art Flyover Bridge and Underpass in Damaturu, the state capital.
The contract signing ceremony, which took place at the Government House in Damaturu, marked a major breakthrough in the administration’s efforts to transform the state capital and enhance its status.
Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umar Duddaye, signed the contract on behalf of the state government, while Engr. Habib Geojea signed for the contracting firm, Merss Triacta Nigeria Limited.
Speaking at the ceremony, Engr. Duddaye explained that the project was part of the administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, which has been a major focus of Governor Buni’s administration.
“It is pertinent for me to mention that the administration of His Excellency, Honourable Mai Mala Buni, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, has put much emphasis and priority to major infrastructural development, which entails the construction of roads, bridges, drainages, and all other civil engineering works,” he said.
According to Engr. Duddaye, the Flyover Bridge and Underpass project will cost N22.3 billion and is expected to be completed within 12 calendar months. He added that the project will not only beautify the city but also ease traffic congestion and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
In addition to the Flyover Bridge and Underpass project, Engr. Duddaye revealed that the state government has also signed a contract for the construction of the Damaturu-Gambir road, which will be executed by Merss Elegance Construction Nigeria Limited. The project, which is expected to be completed within 9 dry months, will further enhance the state’s road network and facilitate economic development.
Furthermore, Engr. Duddaye announced that the Damaturu metropolis will undergo a major transformation through the construction of 23.5 kilometers of roads and 27 kilometers of concrete line drains. The project, which will kick off in the second quarter of 2025, will resurface all major roads in the state capital and give the city a new look.
The Area Manager of Triacta Nigeria Limited, who spoke on behalf of the contractors, pledged to deliver quality work based on the contractual agreement. He thanked the state government for the opportunity to contribute to the development of Yobe State.
Residents of Damaturu, who spoke to our correspondent, expressed excitement over the project, describing it as a much-needed initiative to beautify the city and further enhance its status as a state capital.
“This project is a welcome development, and we are grateful to Governor Buni for his commitment to transforming our state,” said Malam Abubakar Mohammed, a resident of Damaturu. “We are confident that the project will not only improve the aesthetic appeal of our city but also enhance the quality of life for all residents.”
With the signing of the contract for the Flyover Bridge and Underpass project, Governor Buni’s administration has once again demonstrated its commitment to delivering on its campaign promises and transforming Yobe State into a modern and prosperous society.
