“The Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters arrested Dahiru Ali, 19, of Hayin Kwari for the alleged defilement of a three-year-old girl in the Mutawassada area of Potiskum.

“Further investigation revealed that the suspect had earlier committed a similar offence against another three-year-old girl in the same neighbourhood but in a different house.

“The suspect, who worked as a domestic help, lured the children to a secluded location with sweets and milk, where he molested them. He has confessed to the crime, and investigation is ongoing,” the statement said.

In another operation, the Command stated that after a farmer raised an alarm, officers from A Division Police Headquarters in Damaturu arrested 24-year-old Ibrahim Alhaji Ahmadu of Dusuwa Village, Kalallawa area, for trespassing on the farmer’s land.

The statement noted that when confronted over the trespass, the herder reportedly threatened the farmer with a firearm.

“The suspect was arrested through a well-coordinated sting operation, and a shotgun with live ammunition was recovered from him,” the Police Command noted.

The Command further revealed that two additional suspects have been detained for assaulting its officers on duty in Nguru, characterising the incident as an attack on constituted authority.

In the statement, Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, denounced the unprovoked assault on police officers, the unlawful possession of firearms, and the atrocious acts of child sexual abuse.

He reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance policy toward crime, cautioning offenders to stop or face strict consequences, while urging parents and guardians to closely supervise their children to shield them from predators.
