The Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Internal Revenue Service, YSIRS, Alhaji Suleiman Bakura Jibrin, has urged the Yobe State House of Assembly to intervene and ensure that all revenue-generating agencies, including local governments, remit their revenues directly into the agency’s account to block leakages.
The Executive Chairman made the appeal during the agency’s 2026 budget defence before the House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
He noted that the state is losing substantial revenue due to the failure of some agencies to operate a single treasury account for revenue collection.
He, however, said that “the State Revenue Agency has generated over ₦12 billion between January and September, out of the ₦14 billion revenue target approved for the agency in the 2025 Finance Bill.”
In a related development, the Ministries of Finance, Budget, Youth and Sports, as well as the Fiscal Responsibility Board, State and Local Governments Audit Department, and the Audit Service Board have also appeared before the House and defended their respective 2026 budget proposals.
The Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, reaffirmed the lawmakers’ commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of the 2026 budget proposal.
