Gombe state governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has strengthened security efforts in the state with the donation of 50 operational vehicles to security agencies.
The announcement was made during the second Gombe state security summit, held Wednesday, with the theme: “Building a Safer and More Secure Gombe State: Addressing Insecurity Through Collective Action.”
Governor Yahaya said the initiative aimed to enhance the capacity of security operatives in combating crime and maintaining peace.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing the necessary resources to ensure effective policing and safety.
Tasking the agencies with the optimal use of the vehicles, Yahaya urged them to remain steadfast in their duties to safeguard lives and property.
He highlighted the importance of synergy between security forces, community leaders and religious institutions in tackling emerging threats.
While acknowledging the state’s relative stability, he pointed out the prevailing security challenges such as communal clashes, farmer-herder conflicts, banditry, and kidnapping. To address these issues, the governor outlined proactive strategies, including youth empowerment, skills acquisition programs, education investments, and good governance.
“Our approach prioritises early threat detection, regular stakeholder consultations, and swift conflict resolution. This has helped us maintain peace and stability in Gombe,” Yahaya stated.
The security summit convened involved key stakeholders to discuss strategies for tackling insecurity in Gombe and the Northeast region. The governor assured that insights from the event would be instrumental in shaping long-term peace initiatives.
Governor Yahaya also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s progress in combating crime and insurgency nationwide.
