Yabo Charges Staff To Rededicate To Excellence, Says Inefficiency Begins With Individual Lapses

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Engr. Faruk Yabo, has charged civil servants to rededicate themselves to service excellence, warning that inefficiency in governance often begins with individual lapses within the system.

Speaking in Abuja at the opening of the 2025 Customer Service Week themed “Mission: Possible,” Yabo, represented by the Director of Human Resource Management, Mrs. Ijeoma Idika, said the week provides an opportunity for public servants to reflect on how effectively they serve citizens.

“Whenever we say Nigeria is not working, we must ask ourselves who makes up Nigeria. Every ministry, department, and agency represents a part of the system when any of them fails, we all fail,” Yabo emphasized.

He urged staff to handle assignments promptly and with enthusiasm, noting that excellence is achieved by “doing what is right, at the right time, and with the right attitude.”

The Permanent Secretary further called for teamwork and renewed commitment to service, stressing that every encounter with citizens should reflect empathy, professionalism, and dedication.

In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Steel Development, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, represented by Mr. Ime Ekrikpo, commended the initiative, saying the theme challenges civil servants to see possibilities where others see obstacles.

“Our mission is to make service excellence a way of life, not a one-off event and indeed, it is possible,” he said.

Also speaking, the representative of the Acting National Coordinator, SERVICOM, Mrs. Lucy M. Zach-Ukoh, encouraged staff to stay consistent, team-oriented, and solution-driven.

“Every problem has a solution. Stay consistent, work together, and turn challenges into opportunities,” she advised.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Acting Director of Reforms, Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Mr. Salisu Attah, applauded the dedication of staff and reaffirmed the Ministry’s collaboration with SERVICOM to promote efficiency and accountability.

He urged staff to remain focused and resilient, insisting that no challenge is insurmountable when there is a collective commitment to work.
