Operatives of the X-Squad under the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, have taken into custody four armed police officers and three forest guards from Ogun State over their alleged involvement in an unlawful demolition and land-grabbing operation in Orile Egun, Ijere, located in the Pakuro axis of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
A site engineer, who reportedly claimed he was hired by the Eternal Glorious Fountain Ministry, was also apprehended in connection with the incident.
The detained forest guards were identified as 30-year-old Kehinde Babalola, 28-year-old Akintunde Babatunde, and 26-year-old Taiwo Michael Ayomide.
Preliminary findings by investigators suggest that the four policemen were illegally deployed to the community, with one of them allegedly posing as a visiting police officer from Kaduna State. A pistol and locally fabricated firearms were said to have been recovered from the suspects.
Efforts are underway to track down additional members of the group believed to have participated in the operation.
As of Wednesday afternoon, all the detained individuals were still being interrogated and are expected to face prosecution upon conclusion of investigations.
Ameenat Maiyegun, the spokesperson for the FCID Annex, Alagbon, confirmed the arrests, noting that detectives are pursuing several leads.
It was further learnt that X-Squad operatives are probing possible complicity of the Ogun State Task Force on Land Grabbing in the demolition, which allegedly took place despite an existing court injunction.
A senior FCID officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the arrests followed a petition filed against the suspects. They were accused of supervising the attack on the village and pulling down an uncompleted building in violation of a subsisting restraining order.
Police insiders also disclosed that prior to the demolition, the complainant had raised concerns and formally alerted the Ogun State Government about the planned destruction.
In July 2025, Justice M.A. Dipeolu of the Ogun State High Court granted an interim order in favour of Reality Point Limited, restraining the Ogun State Government, its agents, and assigns from altering or demolishing any structure on the disputed 76.15-acre parcel of land at Pakuro Ijere, Obafemi-Owode, as captured in Survey Plan No. OG/126/2009/02 dated June 15, 2009.
The court also barred the first defendant, Dotun Lamikunra, along with his agents and privies, from taking possession of, selling, or carrying out any form of development on the land pending further hearing.
Confirming the ongoing probe, Maiyegun reiterated, “Yes, the suspects are in our custody. They are currently undergoing interrogation.”
