X rolls out ‘synced drafts’ feature that allows users to continue draft made via app on web

Social Media platform X (formerly Twitter) is rolling out synced drafts between its mobile app and web platform. The long-awaited feature allows users to start composing a draft on the app and continue editing it on the web, and vice versa.

Announcing the development via an X post on Tuesday, the company’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, acknowledged that the feature has been a top priority for users. He revealed that the request has been on the desk for 10 years, signalling the struggles users face in the absence of flexibility.

“After 10 years of asking, we are finally rolling out synced drafts: Drafts written on the X app will now be there when you log in on the web,” he said.

The feature brings a seamless experience for users who frequently switch between mobile apps on smartphones and the web on laptops.

The inability to continue a draft created on one device on another has been a long-standing bottleneck to user experience. With the feature, the Elon Musk-owned platform is creating an enabling environment for users and an avenue to rake in more users.

Bier mentioned that the feature does not support syncing media files within drafts for now. He noted that the team made sure to release the synced draft as soon as possible, even if it meant more limitations, considering its long-awaited nature.

There might still be a few bugs, and it won’t support media syncing just yet. But we wanted to get it out sooner than later,” he added.

While it’ll be rolling out, the feature is currently available on the iOS app and the web version of X. Users can seamlessly create a draft on one platform and access it on the other

However, the Android version is still in the works. Bier explained that the Android app is currently undergoing a rebuilding process, and the synced draft feature will roll out with the next app update.

X hints at more features

Since Elon Musk acquired the popular social media platform in April 2022, he has been making rounds to improve its ability and offerings for users.

A recent report in 2025 shows that X possesses 650 million monthly active users (MAU) and 240 to 300 million daily active users (DAU). To drive more engagement and user base, the platform is updating its features and adding new ones with user requests.

As such, Bier noted that more upgrades will be rolling out soon. In an X post on 30 September, he noted that most of the upgrades will be for power users: those who are actively engaging with the platform daily.

Over the next week, I’ll be dropping some small upgrades for power users. Most of these things were quick fixes that somehow fell through the cracks. Stay tuned,” he said.

Amid this, users are also making request for features that helps navigate the platform better, such as:

  • Ability to schedule a post on mobile
  • Solving inequality in monetisation rows.
  • Pictures with polls feature.
  • An enhanced report system.

Recall in June, Elon Musk announced that short-form video app Vine would be making a strategic return to the social media ecosystem. The development comes 8 years after the app was discontinued by Twitter.

The return signifies the platform’s transformation to an Artificial Intelligence-powered platform. The app that enables users to make 6-second looping clips will be revived in an AI model.

The plan falls under X’s plan to set the pace and drive engagements. It will use Vine to regain its lost users in an advanced ecosystem of over 200 million content creators. The plan also comes at a time when short-video content is making waves with social media giants exploiting shifts to standalone reels apps.
