Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has completed her Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt for the Largest Pot of Asun Jollof Rice after over nine hours of cooking at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event, which began around 2:08 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, concluded at 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, with the meal served shortly after.
Baci originally planned to cook 250 bags of basmati rice but scaled it down to 200 bags to comply with the weight limit of her 22,619-litre pot, which was designed specifically for the attempt. The rice is enough to feed approximately 20,000 people.
“This was a challenging but exciting project. Planning took nine months, and fabricating the pot alone took two months. I never initially intended this as a world record attempt, but I dedicate it to everyone who supported me,” Baci said.
The cooking process was accompanied by live entertainment, including performances by Slim Case, and attended by notable figures such as Ogun State’s First Lady, Bamidele Abiodun; Lagos Deputy Speaker, Lasbat Meranda; actress Funke Akindele; TikToker Peller; and singer Spyro.
Baci’s effort has been acknowledged by Guinness World Records, which wished her luck on social media as the official verification of the attempt is pending.
This marks Baci’s second GWR achievement, following her 2023 Cook-a-thon, during which she set the record for the longest individual cooking marathon.
Born on September 20, 1995, in Akwa Ibom State, Baci is a trained sociologist who turned her passion for cooking into a celebrated culinary career.
