Woman faints during fight with sister over ‘missed flight’ at Abuja airport

Two siblings were involved in a heated brawl at the Nnamdi
Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Sunday, reportedly after missing a
domestic flight.

Michael Achimugu, spokesperson of the Nigeria Civil Aviation
Authority (NCAA), said the incident was the “strangest thing”.

The sisters, aged 31 and 23, were booked to travel on an NG
Eagle flight but missed it after arriving at the airport late.

“Perhaps one of them blamed her sibling for their missing
flight (not sure), but these two siblings began to fight each other,” Achimugu
said in an X post.

“They scattered luggage and other items before being dragged
to the interrogation office by airport security.”

Achimugu said the siblings continued to fight in the office
until the elder sister fainted.

He added that although airport officials called for an
ambulance to take her to the hospital, the woman’s sister declined, insisting
that her collapse was “spiritual” rather than medical.

However, the NCAA spokesperson noted that the elder sister
was taken to the FAAN clinic for medical attention.

Achimugu said on arrival at the FAAN clinic, the sister who
fainted earlier began to fight with her younger sibling.

“They were both brought back to the crime office for a
resolution, but the fierce fighting continued,” he added.

He said they were later taken away by officers of the
Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Scuffles at Nigerian airports are not rare.

In August last year, a female traveller allegedly destroyed
her husband’s international passport at the Lagos airport, saying it was an act
of retaliation for years of oppression.

Two months ago, there was a row at the Abuja airport
involving Wasiu Ayinde, the veteran Fuji musician popularly known as KWAM1, and
airport officials.

Days later, Comfort Emmanson, a passenger, was involved in a
rage incident onboard an Ibom Air flight at the Lagos airport.
