Woman discovers at 7 months 3 weeks unborn child had no skull

A Nigerian woman has shared a heartbreaking story of how she failed to go for medical check-ups during her pregnancy and later discovered at seven months and three weeks that her unborn child did not have a skull.

This was contained in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @Emerytarah000, who narrated the painful experience.

According to her, she was pregnant at the time but became too occupied with work and hustling for money, leaving no time for antenatal care.

She explained that she only went for a scan when she was already seven months and three weeks into the pregnancy.

She recalled the words of the man who conducted the scan, writing: “Remember that year I had pregnancy and I was busy hustling for money without going for check up 😂.”

“So at 7 months and 3 weeks I went for scan and it showed the baby did not have skull. The man is an Indian man, guess the best way he could explain to me is madam ‘baby bad, spend plenty money, liability’.”

Sharing what happened afterward, she revealed: “I just bursted into laugh, carry myself go Ile Epo general hospital with the results and they did their work, delivery is normal vaginal and b\@by gave up the ghost 3hrs after. Guess who went to work the following day?”

She added that the most traumatic part of the experience was taking the baby’s body for burial: “The most traumatic experience of my life was carrying my dead son on my back from Ifako Ijaiye until my mother-in-law took him from me, and then we proceeded to the Agege cemetery.”

She also recounted how she struggled to get to the hospital, saying: “In my search for a car to take me to the hospital, I even walked naked from Aruna to Ifako Ijaiye General Hospital. This strength people see in me today is built on countless hidden tears.”

Speaking about the role of mothers, she wrote: “Before you come out to say mothers are nothing, I’m here to tell you mothers are EVERYTHING.”

Revealing further details, she said the baby weighed 2.8kg and she went through a full labor process: “The baby weigh 2.8 then is just few weeks to delivery. I was injected and I had normal contractions and I pushed.”

On how her husband reacted to the devastating scan result, she wrote: “I called him immediately after the scan and all he could say was you know you are in science line what’s the solution and I said evacuation. He met me at the hospital immediately. He collected him and do the needful.”

As the post made its way online, many concerned individuals trooped to the comment section to share their thoughts and sympathies.

See some reactions below:

@Jokotade_ng: “You’re so strong, jeez. Even the way you casually said it.”

@alltime_funto: “I’m just curious about why they choose vaginal delivery since it’s not even 9 months yet. Sincerely I’m curious. Can you explain why that was the option.”

@Samoxine_: “there’s no reason to go to work the next day even if it’s your company, a little rest is always good to avoid future complications after induced labour. So sorry for that, May God bless you with more healthy beautiful babies.”

@YoRhage: “That’s deep. You might feel bad about it deeply but you did the right thing. ❤️ and 💡, Strong woman.”

@arulabee: “If you were eligible for confinement leave you should have taken it, it is not safe to return to working normal schedules after childbirth no matter the outcome.”

@eyiteeonline: “Yes, I hold that strong belief that it makes absolutely no sense bringing in a special need child into the world. People don’t know how miserable the situation is for both the child and the parent.”
