During a reopening of The National Theatre, now named The Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts in Lagos, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged Nigerians in the diaspora to stop spreading negative narratives about the country and to embrace a constructive role in nation-building.

The President promised that his administration will continue to give young people wings to fly ‘sky-high’, which has prompted some online to say they would return when Nigeria’s security, infrastructure and health services improve.

The demolition of commercial plazas at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos has sparked a heated political debate, as former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi criticized the exercise alleging violations of due process.

The Lagos State Government fired back, with Commissioner Gbenga Omotoso insisting the structures lacked valid state permits.

Tributes continued to pour in for ARISE News anchor Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu who tragically died following an armed robbery in Abuja this week.

Among those who offered condolences and called for justice were Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and Minister of Works David Umahi.

Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, also sent his condolences. He also recently dedicated a prestigious Appeal of Conscience Foundation Award to six employees who died in the Afriland Towers fire. Elumelu was recognized for his “Africapitalism” philosophy, which has funded over 24,000 African entrepreneurs.
