The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday kick-start a new wave of infrastructure projects across Abuja, with the official opening of two completed roads and the kick-off of 12 new ones under the Light Up Abuja Programme.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the projects will be rolled out between Thursday, September 18, 2025, and Thursday, October 16, 2025.
The programme includes the provision of integrated hybrid solar lighting across Abuja City and expressways, covering Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business District (CBD), Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki I & II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.
Wike will also commission access roads in Sector Centre B by Dakibiyu District, as well as newly constructed Roads ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street) in Mabushi District.
Other projects scheduled for flag-off include: Full scope development of Arterial Road N1 (Wuye District to Ring Road II); Construction of Northern Parkway (Ring Road II to Ring Road III); Access road to Mabushi Bus Terminal (Cadastral Zone B06); Development of Arterial N20 (Solomon Lar Way); Access road to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in Karsana West District; and Access road bypassing Airport Second Runway with a four-span bridge.
Also, Access road to FCT Fire Service Station and Erosion Control in Kaura District with three-span bridges; Transit Way (2) linking Central Area to Wuse with two bridges; Mohammed Isa Road Extension in Asokoro District; Rehabilitation of the 15km Old Keffi Road (Kado Village–Dei-Dei Junction); Engineering infrastructure for outstanding layouts in Guzape A09 Lots I & II; Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) in Katampe District; and Residences for Heads of Courts (Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, FCT High Court, and Industrial Court).
The FCT Minister had recently flagged off water supply expansion projects in Bwari and Karu towns, as well as the construction of a multipurpose sports centre in Kafe District, a new Magistrate Court complex in Jabi, and the emergency reconstruction of Karu road.
