FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has publicly stated his strong opposition to Peter Obi’s potential return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), arguing such a move would be destructive to the opposition platform.

His comments drew sharp criticism from social media users, with some suggesting that Wike’s actions stem from a fear of Obi’s political strength and are calculated to benefit the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ease the path for his preferred candidate, President Tinubu, in the 2027 elections.

Wike also advised former President Goodluck Jonathan against a 2027 Presidential run, urging him to maintain his role as an international statesman and claiming those now urging him to run are the same people who betrayed him in 2015.

A court judgement exclusively obtained by Arise News ruled that former President Goodluck Jonathan is qualified to contest in the 2027 presidential election, stating that the constitutional provision limiting presidential terms does not apply to him retroactively.

Wike also defended the recent Rivers State local government elections as being constitutional, even as a viral video from activist Inibehe Effiong appeared to show ballot-thumb-printing during the polls.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has advised presidential hopefuls, Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, against making one-term commitments, stating that four years is insufficient for meaningful change.

El-Rufai also alleged that the federal government, through the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), is using a “kiss-the-bandits policy” of paying and offering incentives to armed groups.

He accused them of parading freed abductees as being rescued by security forces even when ransoms had been paid by their families.

Both the federal government and the Kaduna state government have vehemently denied these claims, with the latter accusing El-Rufai of spreading malicious lies to incite public anger and undermine security efforts in a response to recent political losses.

In other news, a viral video captured a passenger being forcibly dragged off an Enugu Air flight at Akanu Ibiam International Airport after he reportedly refused to comply with the pilot’s directive to turn off his mobile phone.

Separately, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended his congratulations to Vice President Kashim Shettima, wishing him vitality, wisdom and more years of impact.

Similarly, the President also congratulated Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo on his 55th birthday, praising his commitment to democracy and good governance.

Lastly, Miss Anambra, Onyinyechi Basil, was crowned the new Miss Universe Nigeria in a competition held in Lagos. She will therefore represent Nigeria in the Miss Universe competition later this year.
