Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive business environment in Abuja during meetings with the Egyptian and Moroccan ambassadors on Thursday.
During the meeting with Egyptian Ambassador, Mohammed Fouad, he emphasised the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Egypt, according to a statement issued by the Director of Press, Anthony Ogunleye.
He noted the successful operations of several Egyptian companies in Nigeria, particularly Arab Contractors, which is currently engaged in the critical Airport Expressway to Kuje road project. “Ours is to make sure that our guests carry out their businesses without molestation and create a very conducive environment,” Wike stated.
Fouad praised Wike’s achievements in infrastructure development, referring to him as “Mr. Project” and “Best Minister of 2024.” He expressed a desire to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in agriculture and vocational training. “As the biggest countries in the continent, I think we share the responsibility of enhancing our bilateral relations to take the continent further,” he remarked.
Wike also had an audience with Moroccan Ambassador, Moha Tagma, where discussions centred on strengthening diplomatic ties and support for the construction of a new Moroccan embassy in Abuja. The Minister assured full backing for the project, saying, “Just this morning, I directed the appropriate authority…to liaise with you on the commencement of your embassy construction.”
Both ambassadors expressed optimism about future collaborations, with Wike accepting an invitation to visit Rabat to explore partnership opportunities. He underscored the importance of ensuring that diplomats can operate without hindrance, highlighting improvements in security and infrastructure within the FCT. “Ours is to make sure that all diplomats carry out their business without any hindrance,” he concluded.
The meetings were attended by key officials from Wike’s office, including his Chief of Staff and General Counsel, reflecting a unified approach towards enhancing Nigeria’s international relations.
