Wike, military officer clash over alleged land grabbing in Abuja

Drama as Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), engaged in a heated exchange with a yet-to-be-identified military officer over an alleged case of land grabbing, at the Gaduwa District of Abuja.

A video of the encounter, sighted by BusinessDay on Tuesday, captured the visibly angry minister accusing the officer of unlawfully taking possession of a parcel of land.

In the footage, Wike was seen confronting the officer over the military’s claim to the contested land, which he said was allegedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff.

“Because you are an officer? Nobody does that. The man took land because he was the Chief of Naval Staff?” Wike queried.

The officer, who was dressed in full military camouflage, interrupted the minister, insisting that the property was acquired through legitimate means.

“I am an officer with integrity. Everything was acquired legally,” he retorted.

Wike immediately ordered him to remain silent. “I will not shut up,” the officer shot back, further heightening tensions at the scene.

The verbal duel intensified when Wike lashed out, saying, “You are a very big fool. As at the time I graduated, you were still in primary school.”

The officer, however, maintained his ground, stating that he was merely carrying out official orders to secure the site.

The minister warned the officer against further action on the disputed property.

“You will see if you will not leave here. Go and develop there and let me see,” he said before walking away.
