Why Ratcliffe made U-turn to retain Ten Hag after weeks of deliberation

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a U-turn to retain Erik ten Hag as Manchester United’s manager following a two-week review at the end of the season.

This decision comes after Ratcliffe’s Ineos group considered various alternatives, including Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate, and Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League, Ten Hag’s FA Cup victory has bought him more time at Old Trafford.

His success with young talents like Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, along with managing a season plagued by injuries, contributed to the decision, according to SunSport.

Ratcliffe had initially explored replacing Ten Hag, holding talks with Tuchel, who has since opted for a break from management.

However, the review concluded Ten Hag was the right fit, considering his overall performance and the first-team operations.

Changes are already underway at United with the impending arrivals of CEO Omar Berrarda and director of football Dan Ashworth.

The Dutchman will now focus on preparing for the next season, with discussions on squad improvements planned.
