The Philadelphia Eagles turned Super Bowl 59 into a rout. And they did so by taking advantage of some of the glaring weaknesses the Kansas City Chiefs brought into the proceedings.
Do those weaknesses still exist? And if not, will that make the difference for KC? Unquestionably the bad taste of theiri 40-22 defeat still lingers.
Maybe this functions more as a preview of Super Bowl 60 than a rematch of SB LIX. It kicks off at 4:25 PM ET Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, giving the Chiefs a home field edge.

The Eagles win at the line of scrimmage
There is very little argument about where the best offensive line in football comes from. The Eagles are actually graded as such by the respected analytics site Pro Football Focus. One key to their success in 2024 was being able to effectively replace perennial All-Pro Jason Kelce with Cam Jurgens. Throw in a pair of tackles like Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson and you have a grouping that can compete at a high level in both the passing and running games.
With the Chiefs, the O-line might still be a question
The offensive line is an area where the Chiefs have been experiencing numerous problems over the last couple of sesasons. If you recall, they got into a precarious position, because of injuries and ineptitude, that forced them into moving Joe Thuney, a Pro Bowl guard, to the outside as a left tackle.
This did not provide for a winning combination in the Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes found himself under constant pressure and was sacked six times. The Chiefs, who also turned the ball over three times, didn’t manage a point until deep into the fourth quarter.
Kansas City attempted to address that problem at tackle in a strong way by making Ohio State’s Josh Simmons a first-round draft pick. Simmons missed considerable time with an injury last season, so it may take a while for him to get into the swing of things.
Stretching things out may again be a problem for KC
Listen – we’re convinced that Mahomes can survive under just about any conditions. Whether he can thrive is another question. He is still playing short-ball, averaging only 6.9 Intended Air Yards per throw. And at the moment, he is without two key receivers. Rashee Rice, who has been convicted of two felonies for his involvement in a car accident, is serving an NFL-imposed suspension. Xavier Worthy, the true deep threat, is out with a shoulder injury.
It was encouraging that Hollywood Brown had ten catches against the Chargers, but what remains alongside of him isn’t going to make this offense a scary bunch.
Who wins between the Eagles and Chiefs?
If you’re asking us who the more complete team is, it is difficult to give any answer other than Philadelphia. Jalen Hurts was let loose by coach Nick Sirianni last week and ran for 62 yards, and you get the impression that this team isn’t even close to being at full throttle.
And to address something brought up at the top of this story, yes, the Chiefs seem to be dealing with holes similar to the ones they had in the Super Bowl loss.
