Why I donated school to Lagos community — Gbajabiamila

The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, has donated a newly built public secondary school to the Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in the Surulere area of Lagos State.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Femi Gbajabiamila Junior Secondary School, Gbajabiamila explained that the gesture was driven by the hardships faced by students, parents, and teachers who had long struggled with the absence of a public secondary school in the community.

Represented by the lawmaker representing Surulere II Federal Constituency, Mr. Lanre Okunola, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives said the project marked a milestone in ensuring accessible and quality education for every child in the area.

“For the first time in the history of Itire-Ikate, this community now has a public secondary school within its borders,” he said. “Many parents had to watch their children travel long distances to attend schools outside the community, with some even abandoning their education. Today, that struggle has ended.”

Gbajabiamila added that the new school was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes education as a key driver of national development. “Education empowers individuals, transforms communities, and builds nations,” he noted.

In his remarks, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, commended Gbajabiamila’s philanthropic spirit, describing the school as a “life-transforming project” that would positively impact generations to come.

Sanwo-Olu said the project reflected the value of collaboration between the government and private citizens in improving access to quality education. He added that such partnerships were essential to building a brighter future for Lagos children.

The Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Mr. Oluwafemi Odunayo, lauded Gbajabiamila for his commitment to community development, saying the school would stand as a lasting legacy of his dedication to youth empowerment and education.
