West Ham United have sacked head coach Graham Potter after just nine months in charge, with the club languishing 19th in the Premier League.
Potter, who replaced Julen Lopetegui in January on a two-and-a-half-year deal, won only six of his 23 league games in charge.
The Hammers earned just three points from their opening five matches this season, with last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace proving decisive.
In a statement on Saturday, the club said: “Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the board of directors believe that a change is necessary to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”
Former Wolves and Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo is expected to be named Potter’s replacement, with confidence that a deal will be finalised in time for him to lead the side against Everton on Monday Night Football. Nuno is scheduled to take training this afternoon.
West Ham ended last season 14th — the same position they occupied when Lopetegui departed, but have since slid into the relegation zone.
Potter’s record leaves him with a lower win percentage than his predecessor and only marginally better than Avram Grant’s lowest-ever return for a West Ham manager in the Premier League.
The Hammers face a tough run of fixtures in the coming weeks, including trips to Arsenal, Leeds, and Newcastle, alongside home clashes with Brentford and Burnley.
