The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Anambra State governorship election, Nicholas Ukachukwu, has stated he is compiling reports from party agents before deciding on next steps following his defeat.
Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie.
Soludo secured 422,664 votes, defeating Ukachukwu’s 99,445 and the Young Progressives Party’s Paul Chukwuma’s 37,753.Announcing the results at INEC’s Awka headquarters on Sunday, Omoregie noted 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 accredited, 584,054 valid votes, 11,244 rejected, and 595,298 total votes cast.
In a Sunday press briefing in Awka, Ukachukwu hailed his 99,445 votes as proof of APC’s growing foothold in Anambra, predicting future dominance.
“The election has come and gone. I congratulate my team and campaign council—they were gallant soldiers,” he said.
He alleged intimidation of supporters, including his running mate, prevented voting in some units, with one agent detained until after polls.
“We are still collating data from party agents… I am consulting with my party on the next step.”Ukachukwu denied vote-buying accusations against APC, contrasting it with claims against APGA.
“For the first time, APC scored nearly 100,000 votes without inducement… If APC bought votes like APGA, the result would have been obvious.”
He cited violence targeting APC members, including an unarrested house burning of an APC supporter who won her polling unit.”Whatever decision I take, I must carry those 99,445 voters along—they want Anambra to move forward,” he added. “APC is here to stay.”
