Matthew Kelechi and Amakor Johnson, popularly known as Happie Boys, have apologised to the founder of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere.

The duo, who were security men at a Chicken Republic outlet in Aba, Abia State, rose to fame after their dance video went viral in February 2022. They were relieved of their jobs by Chicken Republic.

Consequently, Mr Chibuzor awarded them a fully funded scholarship to further their education in Cyprus in March 2022.

However, their relationship with the cleric turned sour after they were deported to Nigeria in June 2023 following allegations that the cleric (Apostle Chibuzor) withdrew their scholarship.

But Mr Chibuzor, debunked the allegation and promised to restore their scholarship and transfer them to a Nigerian university.

Backstory

In August 2023, PREMIUM TIMES reported that the controversy deepened when Happie Boys alleged that Mr Chibuzor raped and impregnated a 14-year-old girl.

The boys further fuelled the row by sharing screenshots on Instagram of a Facebook user threatening to arrest the pastor over alleged sexual misconduct.

Mr Chibuzor, however, dismissed the accusations on his official Facebook page, insisting he was a victim of blackmail.

Since then, nothing had been heard about the matter until Sunday, when a video of Happie Boys at the clergyman’s church went viral.

In the video, the duo went to the church with their relatives to apologise for the rape allegation levelled against the clergyman.

They said: “We want to apologise to Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere and the congregation. Daniel Ochu and his friend confused us and made us collide to fight this thing with you. He came through Meziahbia because Meziahbia was close to us. They brought out evidence and said we should talk badly about you, and they will uplift us and take us to America.”

Financial assistance

However, Mr Chibuzor disclosed why Mr Ochu, a medical doctor and epidemiologist who specialises in infectious diseases, allegedly incited Happie Boys against him in a statement on his Facebook page on Sunday.

He claimed that Mr Ochu deceived the duo by promising to sponsor their relocation to the United States if they publicly attacked him (Apostle Chibuzor).

In another viral video, Mr Chibuzor prayed for the duo after they publicly apologised in his church located in Doctor Jesus City, Aluu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Mr Chibuzor noted, “This is two years he promised to send them to America, but he abandoned them after using them to draw traffic to his page. Just because he begged HRM King Apostle Chibuzor for financial assistance and the man of GOD refused, he now turned to blackmail and lies against the man of God. But today, 14 September 2025, the happy boys came with their parents to OPM church, begging HRM King Apostle Chibuzor for forgiveness and exposing the nurse assistant claiming to be a doctor and all his lies.

“This fake doctor has defrauded many Nigerian youths and collected money from them, promising to give them an American visa.

By tomorrow morning, we shall be writing to ICE in America to deport him the way happy boys were deported back to Nigeria, and as soon as he arrives in Nigeria, he will be arrested and sent to jail for all the atrocities he committed against Nigerian youths. Only a heartless man will rob the poor instead of helping them.”

More allegations

Additionally, Mr Chibuzor challenged Mr Ochu to present anyone he had genuinely assisted to travel abroad.

He maintained that Mr Ochu had never supported him or any member of his family, yet went on to promise assistance to the Happie Boys.

“He asked me to support his NGO. I said I’m already doing free school. Why will I give you money? Because of that, he launched an attack because I refused to give him money. We have an NGO.

“OPM is running the biggest NGO in the world with 37 free schools and free hospitals. You are just there, a content creator who wants me to give you money, are you normal? Do you have mental problems? He now starts recruiting people to attack the church, to attack me”, Mr Chibuzor said.
