Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged citizens to continue to uphold the state in prayers as his administration embarks on what he described as a fresh start.
The governor made the appeal on Sunday, during the first Sunday service following his reinstatement by President Bola Tinubu.
He attended worship at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in his hometown, Opobo, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, alongside his wife, Valerie, and several stakeholders.

Speaking at the 2025 Harvest of Divine Possibilities, Fubara described his visit as an act of gratitude.
“This is not about politics, it is a quiet thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness to my family, to Rivers State, and to Nigeria.
“We are starting again, and I call on all Rivers people to keep praying for peace and unity,” he said.
The governor also used the occasion, which coincided with the International Day of Peace, to stress the importance of harmony.
“Our state has gone through trials in recent months, but today we must all commit to peace. Rivers cannot move forward if we remain divided,” Fubara added.
President Tinubu had lifted the state of emergency on September 17, 2025, directing Governor Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State Assembly to resume duties the following day.
The emergency rule had been declared on March 18, 2025, following a bitter political crisis between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, which split the State Assembly.
With his reinstatement, Governor Fubara has emphasized reconciliation and rebuilding. “Governance is about service, not division. With God on our side, Rivers State will rise again,” he assured the congregation.
