Ward leadership insists Senator Gbenga Daniel’s suspension from APC still stands

The leadership of Ward 4 of the All progressives congress (APC) in Sagamu local government area of Ogun state has insisted that the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel remains in full force, despite a recent letter from the party’s National Secretariat.

In a statement signed by the ward chairman, Hon. Adebayo Ismail, and the secretary, Hon. Durojaiye Oluwole, the executives said the National Working Committee (NWC) has no constitutional authority to review, nullify, or reverse the disciplinary action earlier taken against the senator by the appropriate party organs in Ogun State.

The ward was responding to a press release issued on behalf of Senator Daniel, following a November 17, 2025 letter from the APC National Secretariat. According to the ward executives, the clarification was necessary to set the records straight and prevent misinformation.

They explained that the suspension was initiated at the ward level and later communicated to the state chapter after the senator allegedly failed to honour invitations to defend himself against accusations of anti-party activities.

The ward further noted that the APC constitution empowers the executive committee concerned at any level ward, local government, state, zonal or national to initiate disciplinary actions.

While acknowledging that the NWC can also suspend members, it stressed that this does not override the powers of executive councils at other levels.

“The NWC cannot issue any directive to review, nullify, set aside, or reverse the valid suspension earlier imposed on Senator Otunba Olugbenga Daniel by the appropriate Party organs in Ogun State.

“While it may be conceded that Senator Otunba Olugbenga Daniel is yet to be expelled from the party, the fact of suspension, which remains unchallenged in accordance with the Party Constitution, brings a temporary halt to his rights, privileges and obligations in the party.” The statement revealed.

Ward 4 executives also accused Senator Daniel of working against the party during the last general elections and attempting to frustrate APC candidates at the Election petitions tribunal. “This entire episode originated from the last general elections, when Senator Otunba Olugbenga Daniel acted in open defiance of the Party and engaged in actions inimical to the interest of the party and its candidates in Ogun State. Beyond the elections, he further attempted to obstruct and frustrate the course of justice during the Election Petitions Tribunal sittings by actions and interventions that were directly hostile to the interests of the APC and its candidates. These and many more are the unchallenged anti-party activities of the suspended senator.”

The ward leaders added that they remain committed to upholding discipline, fairness, and due process within the APC.
