Edema Elohor Jennifer, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, has shared a harrowing account of being assaulted and abducted by suspected members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group.
The incident, which occurred on July 13, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., took place at the Corpers’ Lodge in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, leaving Jennifer and her colleagues deeply traumatized.
In an interview with social media personality Aprokoking on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Jennifer recounted the terrifying ordeal.
She explained that she and her fellow corps members were inside their apartment when they heard a violent knock at the door.
Within moments, armed men stormed the lodge, physically assaulted the corps members, and forcibly removed them from the premises.
“It was a nightmare. We were just trying to serve our country, and this happened,” Jennifer said, her voice heavy with emotion.
Jennifer described the experience as profoundly distressing, emphasizing the need for justice and better protection for corps members.
“We are here to contribute to our nation, not to be victimized. This kind of treatment is unacceptable,” she stated, urging authorities to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable.
She said: “My name is Edema Elohor Jennifer and this incident happened on the 23rd of July at about 5 p.m.
“Myself and my colleagues were in our lodge charging our phones when we heard a knock on the door.
“At first, we thought it was a neighbour, but before I got to the door, it was kicked open.
“On the other end stood a masked man with a gun, without any uniform or form of identification.
“At first, I thought he was an armed robber until he ordered us outside.
“I tried to explain that we were corps members and even suggested showing our NYSC identity cards. My colleagues also presented theirs, but the men ignored us.
“They packed our laptops, our phones and everything. They became aggressive, asking what rights we had as corps members.
“Even when we pleaded with them to call our proprietor or NYSC officials before taking us away, they ignored us.
“They beat me, tore my clothes, and even hit one of my colleagues with an iron rod for pleading on my behalf. They forced me into their vehicle, pressing my neck, slapping me, and threatening to smash our phones if we contacted anyone.”
The attack has sparked outrage among NYSC members and the public, raising concerns about the safety of corps members serving in remote areas.
