Victor Boniface’s transfer to AC Milan has suffered a major setback after concerns emerged over his right knee during medical examinations.
The 24-year-old underwent routine tests at the club’s facilities and CONI (Italian Olympic Committee) headquarters on Friday before being sent to the Galeazzi Hospital in Milan for further checks.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan even recalled their trusted orthopaedic surgeon from holiday to conduct additional assessments.
Despite the extensive evaluations, doubts remain, and Boniface will undergo more tests on Saturday before the Rossoneri decide whether to proceed with the deal.
Milan had agreed to a loan deal worth €5 million, with an option to buy for €25 million from Bayer Leverkusen.
However, given the medical red flag, the Italian giants are reportedly seeking a price reduction and exploring alternative options.
Boniface’s injury history is well-documented. He has previously undergone two ACL surgeries (2019, 2020) and suffered multiple muscular problems last season, limiting him to 27 appearances in all competitions, though he still managed 11 goals and 2 assists.
The Nigerian forward, who netted 14 goals in 23 Bundesliga games last season, was expected to be unveiled this weekend and attend Milan’s Serie A opener against Cremonese at San Siro.
Now, his move hangs in the balance, with the next 24 hours set to be decisive for both player and club.
