Veteran Journalist, Broadcaster Aliyu Abubakar Getso Dies In Kano


Veteran journalist and renowned broadcaster, Aliyu Abubakar Getso, has passed away in Kano State.

His death was confirmed by his daughter, Aisha Getso, in a Facebook post early on Sunday. She disclosed that her father died at about 3:00 a.m. at his residence in Jambulu, Kano.

In her post written in Hausa, Aisha announced: “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return! My father (Aliyu Abubakar Getso) has died around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday. His burial will be held around 9:30 a.m. at his house in Jambulu, by Allah’s grace. May Allah forgive him and have mercy on him, amen.”

Getso, whose broadcasting career spanned several decades, was a prominent voice in northern Nigeria’s media landscape.

He worked with leading radio stations, including the Kano State Radio Corporation, Freedom Radio, Premier Radio, and Vision FM, where he earned widespread recognition for his clear on-air delivery and insightful commentary on national and international affairs.

Colleagues and admirers have described him as a mentor to many upcoming broadcasters and a steadfast advocate for professionalism and credible journalism in the region.

He is survived by three wives, children, and grandchildren.

According to the Guardian, the funeral prayers and burial were conducted on Sunday morning in Jambulu, where family members, colleagues, and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects.
