Nigerian social media critic, VeryDarkMan, has addressed reactions surrounding celebrity chef Hilda Baci’s record-breaking Jollof rice event, insisting he is not jealous of her rising influence.
Hilda Baci had recently made headlines after organizing a massive cooking event that earned her a Guinness World Record for preparing the largest pot of Nigerian Jollof rice.
Weighing in on the development in a video posted on X Wednesday, VeryDarkMan pointed out that rice has long been tied to Nigeria’s political history, recalling how politicians often use it as a tool to pacify the masses whenever they fall short.

According to him, while Hilda’s achievement should not be dismissed as a “distraction,” it falls under what he described as a “female thing” that men should simply applaud from a distance rather than actively participate in.
The activist went on to dismiss claims that his remarks stemmed from envy, boasting instead of his own capacity to gather crowds.
He said: “People dragging for rice. Thousands of people are dragging for rice. Let me tell you the initial story about rice today. Rice is the same thing politicians, they use anytime they don fuck up, they’ll just come, come donate rice. During politics, they bring rice. There’s a history of rice in Nigeria. We have a history of rice. They mess us a lot with rice. Rice for wedding, rice for burial, rice for birthday, rice. What is it about this rice?
“But again, like I said, nobody have the decency to call it a distraction. Indeed, bear it in mind that Hilda Baci have made Nigeria proud. You know, she has tried her best. She has put us on the map. Do you understand? But this time, listen to me. It’s not even about Hilda. It’s not about Hilda. She’s a girl. She’s doing what a girl does. That’s what the women do. So that one is nobody’s business, right? That’s what girls do. She can decide to do it again and again. That’s a woman, that’s a girl thing.
“But I don’t want bunch of n***as sitting down one place. Leave women, let women do women. We sit down one place and we clap. But we cannot continue going out to foolish ourselves.
