VC Says No Incidents Of Bullying, Incitement Over DUFUHS Medical Facilities

ABAKALIKI – The Vice Chancellor of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Uburu, Professor Jesse Uneke said that there are no incidents of bullying or incitement of any persons over management of the Renal Center, Eye Center, Cancer facilities in the university.

He explained that the health facilities in question were built via TETFUND, noted that, “All TETFUND projects belong to the University, not Hospital.Go and check TETFUND Act, their Facilities are not transferrable.We built these facilities from the scratch, and Vice Chancellor of a University is responsible for all TETFUND projects’.

He made this known in his office while addressing media practitioners over the alleged bullying, issuing query, inciting of students, and taking over medical facilities from DUFUTH to the University.

Uneke described the allegations of bulling, incitement of students as false, malicious,and fake fabrications from the enemies who want to ignite problem for no just cause.

The Vice Chancellor stated that it is a calculated attempt to blackmail the University as nothing like that has ever taken place within or outside the University.

He noted that National Assembly Committee on Tertiary Education has invited him several times to defend it, and has also came for oversight function at the University and nobody calls the CMD over it, saying that such false information never existed anywhere as the University is under the Ministry of Education while the Hospital is under the Ministry of Health,and have been existing harmoniously without any problem.

The VC urged the general public to disregard such fake and twisted fabrication as it does not emanate from the University, adding that there has been mutual understanding between the University and the Hospital to achieve the best in healthcare delivery.

“Let me state that whatever somebody sent to you concerning the University or the hospital is just a fake fabrication; somebody is twisting the fact, and trying to use every possible means to distort and mislead people. But I am so happy about your level of professionalism as media practitioners in Ebonyi state.

“DUFUHS is the fastest growing public University in Nigeria now, we started with 26 students on 24th of January, 2022.And as of this week, we are having more than 2,400 students, it’s unprecedented.
Coming to the issues you raised, that the Vice Chancellor is bullying the CMD, and inciting the students against the CMD and the hospital. And that the Vice Chancellor has taken facilities that belongs to the hospital, and that the Vice Chancellor issued CMD a query are all false.

“I saw those documents the forwarded to you people, how can I incite students against the CMD; I can’t belittle myself in that manner. Some of you have known me for quite a long time, there are things I can’t do. My students are among the most well behaved students across the country, and that is why we are having over 2,400 students and are living within the school, you won’t hear of any problem from them”.

By 10:00pm,all of them are back to their hotels, there is no anti social activities in this University. So, for somebody to insinuate that a Vice Chancellor of a University is instigating the students against the CMD, is stupidity at the highest level. Its absurd for anybody to do so.

Whosoever that is saying that thing is trying to create problem that is not existing. Saying that I issued her a query! Is CMD’s office under the Ministry of Education? No, the are under the Ministry of Health, it’s Ministry Health that has the authority to issue such query. The document you people have, the didn’t send you the first page, the only sent the second page.

`”We are not doing things like motor park people.We are under a council in the university,and we don’t do anything outside the decision of the council.

“It was alleged that I collected facilities from the hospital, there is nothing like that; if you go there, it is clearly written TETFUND Cancer centre, and TETFUND Renal centre, and TETFUND Eye centre. TETFUND means Tertiary Education Trust Fund. Ministry of Education owns Tertiary Education Trust Fund. The all belong to the University, no one is taking from the hospital.

“National Assembly has invited me several times to come and defend it, and nobody calls CMD. The House Committee on Tertiary Education, has invited me several times to defend this. And I have defended it several times, and the House Committee has also came for their oversight function.

“We know that there are certain individuals that want to destroy things here, but the won’t succeed.
“The University has been managing all those centres, and there is no problem.

“People that are feeling job insecurity are the one igniting and peddling false information,” Prof Uneke explained.

“People think that everything is backward in Ebonyi because we are the last South East state to be created but it is not true. The narrative changed since 2015 when Umahi was governor of Ebonyi state.”
