VC Recruitment: PANDEF Spokesperson Commends Federal University Of Petroleum Resources Board

Olorogun Obiuwevbi Ominimini, Spokesperson of apex socio-political umbrella body of the Niger Delta, Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has commended the board of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) for adopting a transparent selection process in the recruitment of its vice chancellor.

Ominimini, who is also the Deputy President General of the Urhobo apex umbrella body, UPU, in a press statement on Saturday, hailed the council’s decision to allow all applicants to appear before the interview panel, demonstrating their commitment to transparency and fairness.

He said, “I commend the Governing Council chairman and members of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun for their exemplary leadership and wisdom in the ongoing selection process for the Vice-Chancellor position.

“We applaud the Council’s decision to allow all applicants to appear before the interview panel, demonstrating their commitment to transparency, fairness, and meritocracy. This approach ensures that the best candidate emerges, and we have confidence that the Council will make a decision that is in the best interest of FUPRE and its stakeholders.

“As the UPU 3rd Deputy President General, I respectfully appeal to the council to consider local candidates who have expressed interest in the position. It is essential that the university’s leadership reflects the community it serves, and local candidates often bring a unique understanding of the university’s context and challenges.

“We believe that this approach will foster a sense of ownership and promote the university’s growth and development. We are confident that the Council will make a decision that benefits FUPRE and its community.

“Once again, we commend the Governing Council Chairman, Engr. Issa G. Bello and the entire Council for their leadership and wisdom. We look forward to the outcome of the selection process,” he added.
