Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted the club face a major challenge to stay in the Premier League after a 4-0 home defeat to Brentford.
The loss marked Leicester’s sixth consecutive Premier League home defeat without scoring, a first in the competition’s history.
Early efforts from Woyo Coulibaly and Jamie Vardy were denied by Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken before the visitors struck three times in 15 minutes.
Goals from Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo, and Christian Norgaard came in quick succession, before Fabio Carvalho added a late fourth in the 89th minute.
Brentford’s fourth straight away win moved them into the top half, while Leicester remain in the relegation zone, two points from safety.
Van Nistelrooy admitted the difficulty of the task ahead, saying:
“It’s blow after blow after blow. Some performances you can take hope from, but every week we face a better team.
“With the squad we have, it’s a huge mountain to climb to stay in this league.”
Despite 10 losses in their last 11 games, the Leicester boss emphasized that the team must focus on collecting enough points to survive.
Meanwhile, Brentford manager Thomas Frank played down talk of European qualification, saying his team is focused on taking things one game at a time.
