Vaccination: UNICEF inaugurates behavioural change committee, targets fathers 


Considering the dominant roles of fathers in determining decision making within their families, the United Nation Children Fund ( UNICEF) Bauchi field office, has inagurated fathers for good health initiative in Ganye Local Government area of Adamawa state. 

The group were charged with the responsibility of visiting homes and families to interface directly with fathers  who refused to present their children for vaccinations against killer diseases.

 They  will also enlighten them on the need to embrace vaccination. 

Speaking at the inaguration of the group on Monday, UNICEF  Behavioural Change Specialist in Bauchi field office, Mr.George Eki, said the initiative started in Bauchi with 10 local governments and within just two months of its implementation, the number of zero dose children have drastically reduced.

He further noted that fathers as head of their families who decide what they family should do or should not need to be carried along if any vaccination campaign must succeed.

Eki charged the group to work assiduously by visiting every homes in the local government having these challenges using the registrar and data given to them which contained detailed address and other vital informations they need to ensure that all defaulting fathers were reach.

On his part, the executive chairman of Ganye Local Government, Hon. Farouk  Mohammed, commended UNICEF for their efforts and sacrifices towards safeguarding the lives of women and children through their  various activities and intervations.

He stressed the importance of health to the development of any society, and assured UNICEF  of his commitments to  work with them and support the group.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary Primary Health Care Department Ganye, Mr. Jared Satburi Gangso, said that membership of the committee were carefully selected across all the 10 wards.
