Uwaleke to Directors: Use your positions to champion tax compliance

As the new tax regime begins in January 2026, a member of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Prof. Uche Joe Uwaleke, has urged directors to use their positions to be ambassadors of the current administration’s reforms, including championing tax compliance within their organizations.

Prof. Uwaleke noted this at the 2025 Annual Directors Conference Business Meet Government dinner organised by the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) in Abuja on Thursday.

He further urged them to always regard the tax and other reforms as a key part of their business.

He said the whole idea behind the tax reforms was to protect the vulnerable and encourage businesses under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Nigeria can and will achieve this, if we persist with discipline, trust, and partnership. As directors, you are the custodians of corporate strategy and governance,” he said.

Also, the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, said the collaboration between the CIoD and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation is one that they deeply value and intend to strengthen in the years ahead.

Jack who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Fatima Sugra Tabi’a Mahmood, said as they continue to transform the Federal Civil Service to the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2025, one of their most critical priorities is building leadership capacity at every level, cultivating public servants who think strategically, act ethically, and deliver results that improve lives.

“We therefore look forward to deepening our partnership with the CIoD to design joint capacity building programs, executive leadership development pathways, and knowledge exchanges that will strengthen the competence of civil servants to deliver for Nigeria,” she said.

Also, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council, CIoD, Otunba Adetunji Oyebanji, in his opening address said the dinner reflects their shared commitment to fostering constructive dialogue, building trust, and strengthening collaboration between business and government.

Also, CIoD National Organising Committee Chairman, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, explained that the dinner presents a unique opportunity for direct engagement in a space where ideas, insights, and solutions can be exchanged.
