…As Dorkie, Orogun, Ogbeferere slug it out for PG position
The Union of Udu Communities, the apex administrative organ of all 32 traditional Udu communities of Delta state has released the final list of candidates for the 2025 general elections of the body slated for March 15, 2025 at the Udu Kingdom palace ground, Otor-Udu.
A statement signed by the President General of UUC, Hon Chief Peter Okagbare Uviejitobor, Secretary, Olorogun Matthew Ogheneovo and election sub-committee Chair, Hon Eki Afuevure disclosed that the office of President General of the Union of Udu Communities would be open for contest between Evang Andrew Dorkie, former President, Ujevwu Community, former 2nd Vice PG and former First Vice President General of the Union of Udu Communities at different times, High Chief Francis Orogun, big time employer of labour/Managing Director, Daddy Bakery Limited and Chief Oghenero Ogheferere, former President of Ukpiovwin Community.
While the office of first Vice President General would be open for contest between Revd Canon Matthew Akpojaro, a retired priest of the Anglican Church, Chief Patrick Diamond Egbeta and Chief Godwin Orukpe, the position of second Vice President General is open only to Deacon Nigeria Irorohwo Okorode who is returned unopposed.
For the position of Secretary General of the Union of Udu Communities, five candidates have been cleared including High Chief Patrick Okorugbo, Barr Stanley Odion, Jite Urhievwieyere Peter and Mr Daniel Shitu. The office of Assistant Secretary has three contestants including Fiebor Segbuyota, Doghor Blessing and Manfred Masheni.
The race for the position of UUC Publicity Secretary has three candidates cleared including Goddey Joseph, Salami Matthew and Timothy Laya, while Damijo David Ejiro and Opheghe Edesiri are in the race for the position of Assistant Publicity Secretary.
The statement added that the position of treasurer has two candidates including Mr Daniel Tishene, former Secretary, Local Education Secretary in Udu LGA, and Mr Okoro Emmanuel Osiobe, while candidates for the position of financial secretary are Ejeben Ufayi, John Sele and William Jatu Amatu, while Goodluck Mukoro, is unopposed for the position of Assistant Financial Secretary.
Barr John Otega Smart is returned unopposed for the position of Legal Adviser 1, while Barr Augustine Magba is Legal Adviser 2 without any challenger. Three persons are in the race for the position of the UUC Welfare Officer including Grace Dawho Mragbozo, Grace Ese Agbabune and Sibitor James, while the position of Assistant Welfare Officer has four contestants including Moses Omokwagbe, Enavworho Moses, John Okere and Revd Paul Sotu.
Mr Oghenemeru Okohwoake is returned unopposed for the position of Auditor 1, Ovie Ivwionikpiroro Andrew is Aubitor 2 while Oyibode Blessing Jewhe and Bekaren Moses are candidates for the position of Spokesman. However, the position of Assistant spokesman also have tow candidates in Ese Ogboru and Gidwin Simakoro.
The seven ruling houses will also have ex-officio representing them with candidates including Hon Campaign Welemu Ex-officio for Owhorhu ruling house, Deacon Blessing Okoro, ex-offico for Okporua ruling house, Chief Mukoro Daniel, Chief Elvis Keme, Hon Chief Ejiro Kayan and Chief Freeman Ikpen all slugging it out for the position of ex-officio for Orhuwhorun ruling house, Leleji Francis, ex-officio for Adadja ruling house, Evang Johnson Akpojesu Ukiri-Ufuoma for Owhrode Ruling house, Hon Ochuko Brotoboh, Uloho Ruling house and Hon Freeborn Shalokpe, ex-officio for Ovwian ruling house.
The statement added that the list of delegates from all Udu communities, Ufuoma Udu, Udu groups in diaspora etc must get to the secretariat on or before the end of Tuesday February 25, 2025 while campaigns will begin on Wednesday February 26, 2025.
The UUC leadership also appeal to the candidates to play by the rules, thanking the Udu people for the support and cooperation enjoyed by the committee so far. The statement added that they were working hard to deliver a free, fair and credible election that will bring on board a generally accepted leadership for the Union of Udu Communities in the next four years.
