USAID: US to investigate funds sent to Nigeria

The United States Mission to Nigeria has revealed that an investigation into how past aid to Nigeria and other countries was utilised will be conducted by its government.

Speaking in a statement posted on X on Tuesday, the mission disclosed that monitoring systems are already in place to verify the US government’s assistance.

The update comes after US Congressman Scott Perry alleged that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funded the Boko Haram terrorist group.

In its social media post, the US mission said: “Comprehensive monitoring and evaluation systems are in place to help verify that U.S. assistance reaches intended recipients.

“The United States condemns the violence and blatant disregard for human life perpetrated by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in Nigeria and the region.”
