USAID funding: NSA, DSS boss summoned by Senate

4 days ago 10

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu and the heads of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) have been summoned by the Senate over allegations of terrorist funding against the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

An urgent probe into allegations of terror financing against USAID was called after a motion raised by Senator Ali Ndume.

Ndume harped on the need for an investigation into the matter and during plenary, lawmakers expressed concerns over a viral video of a US Congressman, Scott Perry alleging that USAID funded terrorism in different nations, including Nigeria.

According to Ndume, Perry’s claim was made following the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa’s statement about terrorist groups receiving sponsorship and training from international organisations.

The invitation of the NSA and the heads of the NIA and DIA comes after US President Donald Trump suspended all foreign aid via USAID.

Daily Sun reported that the US government announced its intention to investigate funds sent to Nigeria.
