US singer Diddy bags 4-year jail sentence in prostitution case

US music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to 50 months in prison after being convicted on two counts of transporting women to engage in prostitution.

The sentence was delivered on Friday by US District Judge Arun Subramanian, who also imposed a $500,000 fine, the maximum allowed by law. Combs will serve just over four years, with credit for time already spent in custody.

Prosecutors had pushed for more than 11 years behind bars, while defense lawyers asked for no more than 14 months. Judge Subramanian said the punishment was necessary to reflect the seriousness of the crimes and to send a message about accountability in cases of abuse.

During sentencing, the judge referenced evidence from trial, including texts, emails, photos, and a video showing Combs assaulting singer Cassie Ventura in 2024. He said Combs’ actions caused severe physical, emotional, and psychological harm to his victims over a long period.

Combs addressed the court, apologizing to his victims and calling his actions “shameful” and “sick.” The judge, however, questioned the sincerity of his remorse, noting that he continued abusive behavior even after law enforcement became involved.

In addition to prison time, Combs will be required to participate in treatment and mental health programs during and after his sentence.

Although acquitted of more serious charges such as sex trafficking and racketeering, which could have carried a life sentence, the conviction marks a major downfall for one of the most influential figures in the music industry.

Combs’ lawyers are expected to appeal the ruling.
