US announces $32.5 M food assistance to Nigeria

The United States has announced $32.5 million in food assistance to Nigeria amid the country’s food crisis.

The donation targets internally displaced individuals in conflict-affected areas of the North-East and North-West regions.

Specifically, 43,235 children will receive specialized nutrition support through electronic food vouchers, and 41,569 pregnant and breastfeeding women will receive complementary nutrition top-ups.

According to the World Food Programme (WFP), ongoing violence and funding shortages may lead to the closure of over 150 nutrition clinics in Borno and Yobe states, as Nigeria faces one of the worst food emergencies in decades.

According to the US Embassy, the World Food Programme Nigeria will provide vital food and nutrition assistance to 764,205 people across Northeast and Northwest Nigeria.
