Unmet Demands: Kaduna Judiciary Workers Declare Indefinite Strike

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kaduna State branch, has declared an indefinite strike, beginning Monday, October 27, 2025, over what it described as the state government’s failure to meet its longstanding demands.

In a statement issued after an emergency meeting, the union said it was left with “no option than to explore all available channels and avenues for an indefinite strike action” following a series of unheeded correspondences, including letters dated September 1, 2025, and October 9, 2028.

Among the union’s demands are the implementation of financial autonomy for the judiciary in accordance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the implementation of consequential salary adjustments, and the payment of withheld salaries for April and May 2021.

Other key issues raised include the payment of nine years’ arrears of the 20% salary component from 2016 to date, settlement of leave and transport grants, and the payment of outfit allowances for judiciary staff.

Declaring its position, the union resolved that: “An indefinite strike action shall commence from the early hours of Monday, 27th October, 2025. All activities of the Kaduna State Judiciary shall be shut down.”

The statement, signed by the Secretary of the Kaduna State Branch, Nasir Haroun further directed that: “All staff are to withdraw their services until further notice. All Courts and Units including the High Courts, Shari’a Courts, Customary Courts, and other judicial offices across the State are directed to ensure strict compliance with this act.”
