Residents of Tudun Yola in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State were thrown into panic after two women were murdered and their home set ablaze by unknown assailants.
The victims, identified as Hauwa’u Yakubu and Zahra’u Aliyu, were both wives of Alhaji Ashiru Shu’aibu Usaini.
According to local authorities and family members, the attackers reportedly stabbed one of the women before setting the house on fire. The second wife was later found dead in the bathroom.
A stepson, Anas Shu’aibu, told journalists that the incident occurred around midday while the husband and his children were away at work.
“We didn’t know anything had happened until my father called me at night and asked me to return home. We found one of the bodies completely burnt, while the other was locked in the bathroom. When we forced the door open, she was already dead,” he said.
Shu’aibu added that the family initially assumed the fire was accidental but later realised the deaths were the result of a deliberate attack.
The bereaved husband, Alhaji Ashiru, expressed deep sorrow and urged security agencies to uncover those responsible.
“They killed my wives and set one of them on fire. I still don’t know why anyone would carry out such a wicked act,” he said.
Kano State Police Command spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa confirmed the incident, adding that a full investigation has commenced to track down the perpetrators.
